PERSPECTIVE IS EVERY WHERE: WHICH CAME FIRST THE CHICKEN OR THE EGG? THE ANSWER MIGHT SURPRISE YOU!12/11/2022 Which came first the Chicken or the Egg?
We are always trying to figure out which one came first, the chicken or the egg. The principle of “cause and effect” comes to mind. The effect of one being present causes a certain outcome which is the other; or "cause" of this, the effect is that. As a client of mine put it, “Scientist don’t know nothing, the chicken came first. Simple, you need a chicken to lay an egg.” Without a deeper thought, and to gage the question on the surface of the statement, I get his point. In all fairness the question does not have stipulations. Nor does it have restrictions as most brain teasers. The statement itself doesn't warrant any further thought or implies any other scenarios can or can't be in play. It simply states there is a chicken and an egg, which came first? Thinking about this makes me think about how we handle life situations and base it on the pretense of cause and effect (end result). You ever notice that an actual debate over which came first is never really about the chicken or the egg? It’s about the perspective on cause and effect (eventually affect). It turns into, because you did this, it affected (influenced) me in this way. Ironically it doesn’t start or stop there, it keeps going. Especially in an argument, “Well you did this first!” Well, that’s because you did this! We are back to the conundrum of which came first the chicken or the egg? Which one came first? Pondering this thought kept me up. Till one day, I woke up in the middle of the night and I was thinking about that whole scenario, and I went a little bit deeper. “Which one did come first?” Again there is no other pretense I thought, so technically, my mind can go wherever it needs to go. What if “Once Upon a time there was an egg and inside that egg was a chicken. WAIT WHAT!? I don’t know if I was sleepy or what, but it made sense on a whole new level. The answer would be they were present at the SAME TIME. One produces the other almost instantly. So much so that if there is no egg there will be no chicken and if there is no chicken there would be no egg. Maybe, its not a question but a riddle. Which I prefer. With Riddles you walk away with a different perspective in most cases. You’re left saying “I can see that”, or “OH, its because there was two of them. “I get it, I get it.” Now I was getting somewhere, first it’s not a question it’s a riddle. Second, the purpose of a riddle is to come to an understanding; And thirdly, the understanding is somewhere in the riddle. The objective, thus “answer” is not answering the “question” of which came first, the chicken or the egg? But to recognize the riddle of the statement, and in any scenario both the chicken AND the egg were present. Thus my answer is: Both. There was an egg with a Chicken inside it. Ultimately if not for both, the outcome changes significantly, even down to the question/riddle itself. Ahh, I was able to sleep again.... PERSPECTIVE We may never know or remember the true beginning of some things, but we do know the cause and effect of our OWN actions regardless of what happened before or after. Life is full of actual questions that have simple answers. The “DUH” moments. However, don’t overlook life’s riddles and the opportunities to gain some understanding on what is possible.
